NMC chairperson meets foreign medical graduates, pledges to look into FMGE and internship grievances

A delegation of foreign medical graduates from the National Federation of Foreign Medical Graduates Doctor's Forum met NMC Chairperson Dr Abhijat Sheth at the National Medical Commission on 26 October 2026 and submitted a memorandum, Medical Dialogues reported on 27 October. The forum had written to the chairperson on 9 October seeking the meeting.

The memorandum asked whether the changes proposed for the October FMGE apply only to repeat candidates or also to fresh candidates, sought clarity on the proposed 20:30:50 difficulty split and how it will be standardised across sessions, requested a one-time exception from the FMG Licentiate Regulations, 2021 for the 2021-22 MBBS batch, and asked that the internship seat share for FMGs rise from 7.5 per cent to 25 per cent. It also sought grievance redressal committees at the NMC and NBEMS and a one-time university transfer facility in exceptional circumstances. According to the delegation, Dr Sheth said every eligible FMG should have access to an internship on a par with Indian medical graduates, including stipend parity, that additional internship positions would be explored, and that the exam's difficulty is being regulated. No formal NMC decision on any demand was reported.
