GMC Barmer expels MBBS students from hostel over ragging as NMC seeks fresh reports from Kota and Barmer

The National Medical Commission wrote to Government Medical College Kota and Government Medical College Barmer on 29 October 2026 seeking point-wise comments and an action taken report within 24 hours on fresh ragging complaints, Medical Dialogues reported on 30 October. The letters ask about the colleges' inquiries, protective steps for students and the roles of the Anti-Ragging Committee, Anti-Ragging Squad and Hostel Committee. In Kota's case the NMC called the earlier report unsatisfactory, citing Supreme Court directions and its public notice of 9 March 2026.

At Barmer, the complaint alleged ragging by second-year students, including forced haircuts, recitation of degrading content and juniors being taken to a place called White House. According to the report, the college has already acted: six 2025-batch students were permanently expelled from the hostel with 60 working days of academic debarment, seven more with 30 days, eleven received 30 working days of hostel expulsion and 15 days of debarment, and about 49 were warned with seven days of debarment. All face a one-year bar from cultural and sports activities, and five 2026-batch students must bring their parents within three days. The Kota complaint alleges juniors are made to call seniors respected boss, walk in single file with heads bowed and face humiliation if they refuse.

The full report is on Medical Dialogues.
