NMC asks Bihar DME to probe RDJM Medical College over Rs 3.75 lakh hostel fee tied to MBBS internship

The Undergraduate Medical Education Board of the National Medical Commission has asked the Director of Medical Education, Bihar, to investigate allegations that RDJM Medical College and Hospital, Muzaffarpur, made hostel residence and a hostel fee of Rs 3,75,000 a precondition for final-year MBBS students to begin their compulsory rotatory medical internship (CRMI). The UGMEB letter dated 8 September 2026 asks the DME to inquire and submit a detailed report within 15 days of receipt. Medical Dialogues and Careers360 reported the letter on 14 September.

The complaint was filed by the United Doctors Front on behalf of the college's 2021 MBBS batch. It cites a college notice of 4 July 2026 stating that interns must stay in the college hostel for the entire internship and that the internship will commence only after the hostel fee is deposited, along with a further notice dated 18 July. The UDF asked the NMC to have the notices withdrawn, to let non-resident interns start CRMI without hostel residence or fee, to refund fees collected from interns who do not want hostel accommodation, and to initiate an inquiry. Neither report carried a response from the college or any outcome of the DME inquiry.

Students facing similar conditions can read the NMC letter in the Medical Dialogues report.
