NRMP opens 2027 Main Residency Match registration on 15 September; IMG ECFMG deadline is 3 March 2027
The National Resident Matching Program published its 2027 Main Residency Match welcome newsletter for international medical graduates on 8 September 2026. Applicant registration opened at 12 p.m. ET on 15 September 2026. Standard registration costs $85 and covers up to 20 unique program codes on the primary rank order list; extra ranks cost $30 each up to 300, a $50 late fee applies after 29 January 2027, and couples pay $45 per partner. All fees are non-refundable. Match Week and SOAP run 15 to 19 March 2027, with Match Day on 19 March.
IMGs must meet ECFMG certification requirements for medical science, clinical skills and communication skills by the Rank Order List certification deadline of 3 March 2027. NRMP exchanges data with ECFMG weekly until then, and verification status appears in the R3 system from mid-October. Applicants must also register with their application service, ERAS or ResidencyCAS, with a matching date of birth. Non-US citizens must confirm that the institution will sponsor their visa type before certifying a rank list; NRMP provides no visa guidance and points applicants to the Residency Explorer tool. A voluntary pilot allows participating internal medicine, paediatrics and vascular surgery programs to lock their rank lists in February 2027.
Check the NRMP Match calendar for full deadlines.
