Nepal's MEC adds 418 seats at public colleges; integrated entrance exams run 31 October to 4 November

Nepal's Medical Education Commission, at its 28th meeting chaired by Prime Minister Balendra Shah at Singha Durbar on 16 October 2026, allocated 9,691 seats across 84 institutions for the 2026-27 session, 418 more than last year, OnlineKhabar and The Kathmandu Post reported. All additions are at government institutions: 110 MBBS seats (50 at Shaheed Dasharath Chand University of Health Sciences in Geta, Kailali, its first MBBS intake, 30 at BPKIHS Dharan and 30 at the Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences), plus BSc Nursing and BMS seats. Private college allocations are unchanged, and a task force will study intern stipends.

The Kathmandu Post reported on 26 October that 77,359 students applied for the integrated entrance exams, held 11 am to 2 pm: MBBS on 31 October, BDS on 1 November, BSc Nursing on 2 November, BMMs, BNS and B Pharm on 3 November and BPH on 4 November, about a month later than the academic calendar. Private MBBS tuition is fixed at Rs4 million to Rs4.4 million; 75 per cent of government seats are scholarship seats. Campaigner Dr Govinda KC has demanded that the Geta approval and the Army institute increase be revoked, arguing the 300-bed hospital requirement is unmet, and has threatened to protest if his demands are not met.

Students should check mec.gov.np for the official notices, results and matching schedules.
