Seventeen "doctors" with Class 10 and 12 certificates, one practising for 25 years and another for 20: the Rajkot rural SOG raids of 23 October 2026

Compiled by TrustMBBS from published news reports ·

On 23 October 2026 the Rajkot Rural Special Operations Group raided clinics across the district's villages and industrial belts and arrested seventeen people who had been treating patients with allopathic medicines and injections without any recognised medical qualification.

According to Gujarat Samachar, DeshGujarat and Loktej, cases were registered against all seventeen and the investigation was continuing to identify others. The accounts of their education differ slightly between outlets: Aaj Tak reported that some had studied to Class 10 and others to Class 12, while Sandesh reported three with Class 10, eight with Class 12, three with Class 11 and three general graduates. Two of those arrested, named in the reports as Rafik Garana and Hariprasad Jani, had reportedly run their clinics for 25 and 20 years respectively; police said others had been practising for over ten years and some for only two or three months.

Seventeen in a day is a large number for one district, and the span from twenty-five years to three months shows two things at once: that unqualified practice in rural Gujarat is long-established enough to have become a career, and that new entrants keep arriving because the earlier ones were never stopped. The patients were people with no nearby alternative, which is the condition under which a confident man with a syringe becomes a doctor.

The relevance to students is indirect but real. Gujarat's medical council register is public, and every one of the seventeen was absent from it; the same register is where a graduate's hard-earned degree becomes a licence. The cases on this site about forged degrees and bought registrations are attempts to get onto that register by the back door; the Rajkot seventeen never tried, and lasted decades anyway because nobody looked. Look. The council's search box is the entire difference between a doctor and a man in a clinic.
