Flown to Kazakhstan for a college that had no seat for her: the ISM Educate case from Ujjain

Some scams end at the visa counter. This one continued after landing.

According to reporting summarised by Careers360 and The Pioneer, Ujjain's Mahakal police arrested four agents connected to a company called ISM Educate, which was operating without a valid licence and offered Indian students medical admissions in Russia and Kazakhstan — including, the reports say, admission "without NEET and other crucial requirements".

The complainant, a student named in the reports as Kriti, paid lakhs and was sent to Kazakhstan. On arrival there was no college admission. For about six months, the reports say, she was kept on verbal assurances by the accused and their foreign collaborators; her documents were withheld and she was moved to a remote area, which restricted her movement. She eventually reached the Indian embassy, got out, and later completed a medical degree at her own expense at a university in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. When she returned to India and asked for her money back, she said she was threatened.

Mahakal police station registered Crime No. 269/2025 under sections 318(4) and 308(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita — cheating and extortion. The accused have not been convicted at the time of writing.

Three warning signs were present before any money changed hands. "Without NEET": since 2018 an Indian student needs a NEET qualification to be eligible for FMGE/NExT after a foreign degree, so a seat sold "without NEET" is either a lie or a degree you cannot use. An unlicensed company: consultancies that cannot show registration should not be trusted with a passport. And the plan to "sort things out after you land": a genuine admission produces a university-issued offer letter and an invitation letter for the visa before departure, not promises for later.

The part of this story worth holding onto is the embassy. An Indian student stranded abroad by an agent should contact the Indian embassy or consulate immediately; embassies deal with exactly this, and the student in this case got out that way. Before you fly, save the embassy's emergency number and share it with your family — and connect with a verified student already at the college you are going to, so that someone on the ground knows you are coming.
