Accra High Court halts MDC Common Registration Examination for 792 newly trained doctors
The Human Rights Court 2 of the High Court in Accra has granted an interim injunction restraining the Medical and Dental Council from requiring 792 newly trained doctors to sit the Stage 1 Common Registration Examination before provisional registration, the Federation of Ghana Medical Students' Associations said in a statement dated 21 October 2026, as reported by Citi Newsroom and MyJoyOnline. The order also restrains the Attorney-General and the Ministry of Health from enforcing the requirement until the substantive suit and the injunction application on notice are heard.
The sitting scheduled for Thursday 22 October 2026 is effectively suspended. FGMSA, which filed the suit with affected graduating medical and dental students after what it called unsuccessful engagement with the authorities, says the examination had been made a mandatory requirement for provisional registration and the start of housemanship. Neither report carries a response from the MDC, and no date for the next hearing is given, so graduates in this cohort should expect further notices before any new exam date is fixed.
Check the Council's own notices and FGMSA's official channels for the next hearing date and any rescheduled sitting.
