Al-Azhar University's Faculty of Medicine for Girls, on the Nasr City campus in Cairo, admits women only. It sits inside a religious university reorganised under Law No. 103 of 1961, whose own Supreme Council sets medical fees and whose foreign applicants use Al-Azhar's own portal. It records accreditation by Egypt's National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education dated 25 September 2024, and ECFMG eligibility for graduates.
The Embassy of India in Cairo directs applicants for Al-Azhar scholarships to Al-Azhar's own portal on azu.edu.eg, where they register, pay the applicable fees and rank preferences. In an advisory posted in February 2026 the embassy said some consultancy assurances, on security clearance, accommodation, visas and placement in top universities, are not fulfilled. It added that under NMC guidelines of 18 November 2021 Indian students must complete internship at the same institution, that internship in Egypt lasts two years, and that students must pay the full tuition fee of about US$6,000 a year during it.
