USD 7,500 for year one, a USD 400 'invitation' fee and 'NMC, WHO approved': the agent page selling Assiut University medical seats, and the Indian embassy's warning on unfulfilled promises

Compiled by TrustMBBS from published news reports ·

Assiut University is a public university in Upper Egypt, about 375 km south of Cairo. Times Higher Education records it as the region's first university, founded in 1957, with 91,574 students. Its Faculty of Medicine is listed in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools under F0000336, though a directory listing is not an accreditation and does not guarantee registration anywhere. Nothing here is an allegation against the college.

On 16 February 2026 the Embassy of India in Cairo published an advisory on admission to medical faculties in Egyptian universities. It said many consultancies had come to its attention because 'some assurances being made are not fulfilled', among them 'security clearance arrangements, accommodation, assistance with visa documentation and renewals, placement in top universities', and directed students to its FAQs, university websites or the government's Study in Egypt portal. The embassy's FAQ says to apply only through that portal, that NEET is compulsory, and that a nomination letter 'is not final admission': admission is confirmed only after in-person verification of original documents in Cairo and can be cancelled. Hostels 'are usually not available'.

An Indian agent portal, CareerMarg, lists Assiut at USD 7,500 for year one and USD 6,000 a year after that, plus USD 400 for a 'copy of invitation' and USD 100 courier charges. It labels the college 'Approved By: NMC, WHO' and promises boys' and girls' hostels. These are the agent's claims. India's National Medical Commission states that it 'does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions/Universities'. Fee figures reported from the university's own pages differ from each other and from the agent's, and those pages could not be reached when this piece was checked. Careers360's FMGE 2022 college-wise data lists one Egyptian college, Cairo University, with one candidate; Assiut does not appear in it.

Egyptian Streets reports that Egypt grew from 50 universities in 2014 to 92 institutions by the end of 2022, with a target of 200,000 international students by 2030. A push of that scale draws intermediaries who charge for what the state portal provides. The Malaysian agents who recruited for Egyptian medical faculties on promises of sponsorship that never came, recorded elsewhere on this site, followed the same pattern.

Apply through the Study in Egypt portal, not through a consultancy promising a 'placement'. Pay the university, not an agent, against a written fee letter for your year of entry. Treat a nomination letter as provisional until your originals are verified in Cairo, and budget for a flat. Confirm in writing that the course meets the NMC rules Careers360 summarises, at least 54 months plus a 12-month internship at the same university, since no Indian pass-rate record exists for the school.
