Bought medical diplomas, a therapist's post from April 2026 and a one-million-rouble payment: the Kurganinsk district case sent to court, Krasnodar Krai
In Russia a doctor's diploma is a state document that an employer can check with the issuing university, and medical workers who take up certain posts can qualify for a one-off state payment on top of salary. That combination makes bought diplomas worth money, and it makes the case now before a court in Krasnodar Krai a useful warning for anyone tempted by a 'ready diploma' or by a job that nobody seems to be verifying.
According to Novaya Kuban, reporting on 30 October 2026, a 39-year-old woman from Labinsk district took a job as a therapist, a general physician, at a district hospital in Kurganinsk district from April 2026. To get it she presented diplomas of higher medical education. The investigative department of the Kurganinsk district police found that she had never studied at a medical university and had bought the diplomas from unidentified people. On the strength of the documents she received a one-time compensation payment of one million roubles due to medical workers and spent it on personal needs. The investigation has been completed, the indictment approved and the case sent to court; she is charged under Part 3 of Article 327 of the Criminal Code, forgery of documents, and Part 3 of Article 159.2, fraud in obtaining payments, which carries up to six years' imprisonment.
24Krasnodar.ru carried the same account on 1 November 2026, confirming that the money was a one-time compensation payment, that she had spent it, and that the case had already been sent to court. Neither report names the hospital, the university printed on the diplomas or the sellers, and neither says how long she saw patients before the papers were checked.
The failure here is a hiring check that stopped at the paper. A diploma is only as good as the record behind it, and the reports do not say that anyone asked the named university to confirm the graduate before she was given a post, a patient list and a million roubles. Document sellers know that small hospitals are short of staff and keen to hire, and that is exactly where a forged diploma is least likely to be challenged.
For students and families the practical lesson has two sides. If you are a genuine graduate seeking work in Russia or anywhere else, keep your originals, your transcript and the university's contact details ready so that an employer can verify you quickly, and treat any 'consultant' offering a diploma without study as a criminal rather than a shortcut. If you are a patient, you can ask a hospital which university and which registration a doctor holds; a clinic that cannot answer is telling you something.
