SCFHS to offer Saudi Board final cognitive exam twice a year in 14 specialties
The Saudi Commission for Health Specialties said in a news release dated 26 October 2026 that the Saudi Board final cognitive examination will be held twice a year in 14 specialties, as the first phase of a plan to widen opportunities to sit final exams. The five medical specialties are internal medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and family medicine. The nine allied health specialties are clinical pharmacy, periodontics and oral surgery, and seven nursing specialties: midwifery, neonatal critical care, adult critical care, emergency, cardiac care, adult oncology and home healthcare.
The first phase covers only the cognitive (written) final; the clinical final examination is not included. The commission said other specialties will be considered according to need and operational readiness, and that any updates will be announced through its official channels. No start date was given. For residents already in Saudi Board programmes, and for graduates planning to apply, a second annual sitting means a failed or missed attempt need not cost a full year.
