Egyptian Medical Syndicate to require secondary school certificate for registration from 2027

The Egyptian Medical Syndicate's ordinary general assembly, meeting at Dar El Hekma in Cairo on 23 October 2026, approved 11 resolutions, according to the decisions published on the syndicate's website. From next year the Thanaweya Amma certificate or an equivalent will be added to the documents needed to register with the syndicate, the step that lets a graduate practise. The assembly also called for a halt to new admissions at medical faculties that have not built the university hospital required by their founding decree, and said students admitted to such faculties next year will not be registered.

Other resolutions ask the government to cap foreign students at public medical faculties at 5 percent of places, to set a fair equivalency system for IG, AD and STEM certificates, and to amend Article 20 of Law 162 of 2018 so that branches of foreign universities in Egypt follow national admission rules, including the Ministry of Higher Education's minimum score. Sky News Arabia reported on 25 October that the measures follow reports of students admitted to international university branches with scores from 50 percent, and that the syndicate has written to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Higher Education.

Students considering a private, national or international branch medical programme in Egypt should read the syndicate's published decisions before enrolling.
