The back gate is accessible by bus from Jongno 02, while the main gate is accessible by bus from Hyehwa Station Exit 1. The fare is 300 won. If your goal is to visit Sungkyunkwan, the main gate is recommended. If you're primarily exploring Naksan Park or the Samcheong-dong area, the back gate is a better choice.
Visiting my alma mater from the early 1960s brought back new memories. While I was disappointed by how much the environment had changed, I applaud the school's progress in modernizing itself. This building, with its jig, seems to be where my lecture halls were located during my graduate school years.
The school is not as grand as some other Korean universities, but it has a strong traditional character. The most beautiful time is probably in the fall when the school changes its green color to yellow thanks to the ginkgo tree. The school's symbol is also the ginkgo leaf?
Located near Hyehwa Station on Seoul Subway Line 4, Sungkyunkwan University boasts a magnificent, century-old ginkgo tree in front of its Myeongnyeondang Hall – truly spectacular! I highly recommend visiting in early November to admire and photograph it.
The modest entrance to the university is surrounded by historic assets, including the fortress walls, Myeongnyundang, and Bicheondang. This is a place where you can experience both the nostalgic atmosphere and the vibrant energy of university students.
